11 Stars Twitter Wants To Protect From 2016

This has been a pretty rough year in terms of losing our icons, and losing them at ages that are far from what one would consider “old.” After losing George Michael, Ricky Harris and Carrie Fisher in a span of days at the tail end of the year, Twitter users are more than disappointed — they are pretty frightened. People started saying that precautions need to be taken to look out for the icons we have left, whose work we’ve grown up with and followed. Here is a list of stars Twitter users said we need to keep a 24/7 eye on as this disappointing year comes to a close.

(function(d, s, id) {
if (d.getElementById(id)) return;
var js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
js.src = ‘//cdn4.wibbitz.com/static.js’;
d.getElementsByTagName(‘body’)[0].appendChild(js);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘wibbitz-static-embed’));
A man in South Carolina went as far as to set up a GoFundMePage to protect the 94-year-old comedian. He surpassed his goal of $2,000 in 20 hours.

“Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White!” Demetrios Hrysikos wrote in the fundraising description. “If she’s okay with it I will fly to where ever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan 1 , 2017.”

Stevie Wonder

Many people said they were taking the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate Wonder’s music now instead of later. And after news of George Michael’s passing, as one Twitter user put it, “I would like to announce the formation of The Coalition to Protect Stevie Wonder at All Costs.”

Aretha Franklin

Franklin, who collaborated with George Michael on “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)”  was a consistent name brought up in lists of stars people mentioned on Twitter who needed to be found — and wrapped in bubble wrap ASAP.

Patti LaBelle

As one man on Twitter said, “Go make sure Patti Labelle is fine,” because “We. Not. Doing. This.” She’s doing great actually, and the singer even sent out her sweets to her celebrity friends for Christmas.

Diana Ross

While people on Twitter made mention of Ross, she’s not worried about what’s left of 2016 because she’s looking forward to 2017. The iconic singer has big plans to headline Essence Festival next summer.
