Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Has A Love-Hate Relationship With Her Hair Just Like Us
Award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was already known among many for her empowering words, but she became a bonafide household name when Beyoncé sampled Adichie’s 2013 TEDx Talk in “Flawless” and was featured in Lemonade.
But more than speaking volumes, she’s also known for being quite fashionable from head to to toe. However, as much perfection as she purveys, things aren’t always as they seem. In a recent interview with The Cut, Adichie shared many personal tidbits of life ranging from beauty to her personal relationship with her hair. Like many of us, she echoes the same sentiment of feeling “utter frustration” to celebrating her “glorious” kinky mane.
“I don’t think we have enough time to talk about this,” she said. “It’s interesting because I can say very excitedly now that I absolutely love my hair and I wouldn’t change it. But, it’s a relationship that has its ups and downs. There are times when I just don’t have the time for my hair and I let it be a matted mess. And there are times when I think of my hair as this glorious gift from God in all of its kinkiness.”
Not to mention, she too suffers from finding the best product to slather on her mane for ultimate moisture. “There are times when it’s frustrating and I go through a phase of having such a difficult time keeping the damn hair moisturized — it’s utter frustration. And there are other times when I’m having a really good day with my hair. I’m still looking for the perfect hair moisturizer.” Sounds about right, girl! If you find something, hit our line.
