8-Month-Old Baby Survives Being Ejected From A Car

November 30, 2016  |

There’s this proverb my dad says all the time. “God takes care of babies and fools.” And He was certainly looking out for this 8-month-old baby girl in Texarkana, Arkansas.

The baby was in the car with her mother Jakesia Colson, who was riding with her friend Trina Johnson on Friday night when an 18-wheeler clipped the side of the car they were riding in. Johnson was thrown from the car by a deployed airbag.

Johnson wasn’t the only one who was ejected. Colson’s 8-month-old baby Bryce Hale was also thrown from the car.

Colson told WLOX, “I started running up and down the highway looking everywhere for her, calling her name. I didn’t hear a baby crying, no baby screaming, nothing. I panicked. I thought she was gone. It was the worst 15 minutes of my life trying to look for her.”

When firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident, they found Bryce in a drainage gate 25 feet away from, the car. When they examined her, they found that aside from a tiny scratch on her forehead Bryce was unharmed. From then on, she was called the miracle baby.

“I know it was a miracle. The way they had to pull her out of the drain. They couldn’t just pull her out. They had to turn her head a certain way and turn her body a certain way to get her out. She was just sitting there looking up, waiting for them to come get her.”

All of the other women in the car walked away without serious injuries. Trina Johnson is still in the hospital though.

Officials believe Bryce was ejected from the car because her car seat was installed improperly. The diver of the 18-wheeler was cited for improper and an unsafe lane change. But Colson is focused on all she was able to walk away from the accident with.

“I was just overwhelmed with joy. I started crying and thanking God for sparing my baby, for sparing us, for not taking my angel away from me. She is my miracle baby.”
