Despite Michelle Obama not saying outright that she would run for office, our beloved First Lady also never said outright that she wouldn’t. With her future plans unclear, many people decided to maintain the hope that she would run for president in 2020, but was just keeping those plans on the hush for now. It would make sense considering that she told a man at the White House during an event last month to “Be quiet back there” when he shouted, “Run for president!” But President Obama is bursting bubbles everywhere by emphatically stating that Michelle will never, as in ever, run for office.

When asked if he thought Michelle should run, President Obama told Rolling Stone‘s Jann S. Wenner in the latetst issue that she has too much good sense to do so.

“Michelle will never run for office,” he said. “She is as talented a person as I know. You can see the incredible resonance she has with the American people. But I joke that she’s too sensible to want to be in politics.”

He shut down hopes in a (very) similar way last month while speaking on the Sway in the Morning Show.

“She is as talented and brilliant a person as there is and I could not be prouder of her, but Michelle does not have the patience or the inclination to actually be a candidate herself,” he said. “That’s one thing y’all can take to the bank.”

He has said that both he and Michelle will continue to work for the people, pushing forward with their popular initiatives in My Brother’s Keeper and Let Girls Learn. As he put it, “we’re gonna be doing a lot of work. We’ll just be doing it a different way.”

You know, we hear him, but until Michelle says for herself that she’s not interested, we’re pretty sure that fingers will continue to be crossed by many people who can’t wait for these next four years to fly by.
