The cast of the upcoming Marvel film Black Panther is looking sweeter and sweeter each day. With Ryan Coolger at the helm, directing and a cast that includes Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, and Forest Whittaker, you think it would be nearly impossible to make it any better.
But you would be wrong.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Angela Bassett is set to play Ramonda, T’Challa (Black Panther’s) mother.
According to Blavity, in the comic Ramonda becomes T’Challa’s stepmother after his mother N’yami died during childbirth. Bassett’s character is the mother to T’Challa’s younger sister. After the death of T’Challa’s father, he believes that Ramonda left their home to be with another man. But in actuality, she was sexually abused by a White supremacist. When T’Challa learns of this he frees her and brings her back to Wakanda.
The film is set to be released on Feb. 16, 2018.
