Mel B. To Star In Latest Revival Of Chicago
Melanie Brown (Mel B.) is probably one of the most visible Spice Girls on this side of the pond. She keeps a job. And her latest one happens to be on the “Great White Way.” The former Spice Girl will return to Broadway to take on the lead role of Roxie Hart in a revival of Chicago.
This will be Mel B.’s second time on a Broadway stage. In 2004, she was Mimi Marquez in Rent. And in between then and now, Brown has served as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” and a guest judge on the Australian leg of “X Factor.”
Chicago, the musical written in 1975 by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, is about a housewife who murders her boyfriend and then tries to pin it on her husband.
The play has been revived on several different occasions. In 1996, when it returned to Broadway, it won six Tony Awards. In 2002, the film version, starring Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta Jones and Queen Latifah won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. And the editors of MadameNoire saw the revival starring Brandy as Roxie Hart two year ago.
In this latest production, Disney Channel star Veronica Dunne will play Hart through November 27th and Mel B. will join the cast from Dec. 28 to February 19.
