Mýa Goes Vegan And Loses 30 Pounds

Mýa has always looked like she got to take more sips from the fountain of youth than the rest of us, but these days the singer is looking even better than ever and the secret is her diet.

In a new campaign for PETA, Mýa, who just turned 37 on Monday, declared she’s gone vegan and never felt better. It was actually three years ago that she made the switch from vegetarian to vegan and she’s experienced a wealth of benefits ever since.

“I’m no longer anemic. I’m intaking so many more healthy foods—obviously vegetables, nuts, greens, seeds that are iron-rich,” she told PETA in an interview. “Dairy causes mucus buildup, which is awful for singers. I don’t get sick! And my skin is clear. I lost 30 pounds. I don’t have to go to the gym as much.”

Plus there’s also the peace of knowing no living thing had to suffer to nourish your body. “[T]he more information about the truths and the harsh realities of treatment of animals … including seafood, including the dairy industry … it’s impossible to turn back,” she said.

Still describing herself as a “brand-new vegan,” it’s obvious the benefits of making the switch to a vegan lifestyle have far outweighed the will power it took to give up meat and dairy. And Mýa has no doubt that you’ll feel the same if you take a chance.

“Give vegan a try,” she said. “It’ll grow on you.”
