One Potato: The Healthy Delivery Meal Kit Especially For Families
Back-to-school means we parents are back to the endless loop of packing school lunches and juggling dinner with carpool, homework and piano practice. Catherine McCord, famed for creating the easy family recipe resource, Weelicious, has created an invaluable helping hand with One Potato, a new, organic and family-friendly meal delivery service.
When Mommynoire was offered the chance to sample One Potato, the only meal kit delivery service geared for the whole family, we were too excited to dive in, so were the kids when they saw the menu selections. They offer child-size portions, recipes the whole family will love, semi-prepared ingredients, organic proteins and produce and tips and recommendations for how to get your children involved in cooking and try new foods. Every box also comes with their own slice-and-bake cookie dough to get the kids excited…and the parents too. (We have to confess to baking the cookies before dinner, only once though, we promise)
Studies have shown that eating dinner together as a family has a positive impact on children’s behavior and eating habits, but preparing a meal that every member of the family will enjoy is often difficult. One Potato believes that it’s possible to prepare one meal to satisfy everyone at the dinner table, so we were ready for the challenge.
We tried three selections from the omnivore box (One Potato also has vegetarian options): first up was the kids choice because they were psyched to help cook this one – Crunchy Chicken Nuggets with Crispy Broccoli and Sweet Potato Fries – which was a perfect pick because it’s said that it’s one of the most kid-friendly recipes at One Potato. In about 30 minutes, we were all stuffing our faces.
The ingredients arrive super fresh, like I just picked them up from the grocery store and semi-prepared (even the whipped eggs and breadcrumbs for the nuggets). For example, the meats and vegetables are pre-cut and sauces and marinades are ready to cook. The kids got to prepare everything, no knives needed, and mom popped everything in the oven. The food was delicious and included a ginger peach dipping sauce and homemade ketchup which the kids experimented with and loved.
There was enough food for two adults and two kids in our order and the adults enjoyed large salads, too!
We also were big fans of the next meal, Corn Ravioli with Heirloom Tomato Salad. Also very easy to prepare, this time mom took over and handled the cooking. The ingredients were just as fresh and it was a yummy combination.
Our final meal was the biggest and had the most ingredients – Shrimp Fajitas with Spanish Rice and Avocado Salsa. The only thing we needed to add from our pantry was olive oil. The rice was seasoned well (not too spicy for the kids) and the spices included for the shrimp could be adjusted to your family’s preferences (we went light on that as well), so everything was perfect for a family of four, and there were leftovers! We saved this meal for a Friday night so we could lay out a festive spread like we were at a restaurant. It was delicious, filling and fun to make.
