The Modern Chef: Watermelon Cocktails For An Adult Playdate
My fellow moms, it’s finally the weekend (give or take a few hours), so let’s unwind without the worries of the back-to-school grind. Take a much needed break from hearing the kids screaming, tromping and calling your name with an adult playdate.
Take advantage of that next mom-and-kids weekend get-together by including some strategic planning. So the next time you host a playdate, invite the mom squad over and blend up a little perfect playtime for yourselves! While the kids are having fun exhausting each other to the hilt, there’s room for the moms to enjoy a fruity adult beverage to close out the summer.
By the weekend there’s an array of fruits in your fridge that will go bad soon, so why not put them to good use and maximize all the healthy components the natural sweet treats have to offer … with a little rum, of course! Here’s a great watermelon cocktail to try… add a bunch of muddled mint and call it a watermelon mojito.
I still have loads of watermelon and a few limes – and guess where they’re going? Right into the blender.
About 4 cups watermelon
1/3 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
2 ½ cups ice
¾ or a cup white rum
1 cup chilled sparkling water
lime or watermelon slices (as garnish)
Place the melon, lime juice, ice and rum is the blender and pulse until is becomes slushy. Add sparkling water and blend for no more than 5-7 seconds. Pour into a pitcher and serve as needed in a rocks glass with a twist of lime or small watermelon wedge and enjoy!
