I read something really interesting the other day: Love isn’t always about luck; it’s about setting a goal and reaching it.

As women, it’s easy for us to fall into the habit of waiting for love to happen to us. It’s the men that do the approaching and it’s our job to be ready when it happens.

But even if you like a man to make the first move, there are lots of ways to make sure you’re in his cross hairs when he’s ready to make that happen.

Putting love on your To Do list means making time in your schedule to make love a priority — and thinking a little outside of the box.

Fill Up Your Calendar

With lunches, dinners parties, dates and even group classes you find on Groupon.

Getting out there is the best way to meet someone. The more you do it, the more quickly you’ll find him.

Be Prepared to Go With the Flow

We all have a comfort zone. But if staying in yours hasn’t given you the results you want, it might be time to do something different.

Try new activities, new types of men, even new friends (with single friends) — anything to push you into new territory where love might be waiting.

Give Love a Chance

Make it a point to try not to cross someone off the “potential” list until at least the third date (unless things are really bad — like disrespect and abuse).

Spark Up Conversations

With the person in line at the movies, with someone you don’t usually talk to at work. Be the kind of person who’s good at small talk — and then use those skills to approach someone who looks like they have potential.

See a Relationship Therapist

When love strikes, it pays to be ready. If you have a feeling that something has been holding you back from love, leading you to the wrong type of man, or keeping your guard up, it’s time to find out what it is while you look.

Just a few sessions (or a self-help book) might do the trick.

Make Your Happiness a Priority

Ever notice that as soon as you’re booed up, men come out of the wood work? That’s because you’re very happy and that’s attractive. Find and do the things that bring you joy and that shining light will make meeting someone more likely.

Help Your Friends Find Happiness

By throwing singles parties. Have everyone bring another single friend of the opposite sex and spend the night mingling. Everyone in the room might find someone special by the end of the night.

Dress the Part

Only keep items in your wardrobe that make you feel confident enough to do a little flirting if it comes to it. When you’re feeling self-conscious, it can come off as uninterested.

Put Sex on the Back-Burner

When you’re looking for something serious, postponing intimacy is a good way to find out if he’s interested in something real.

Know Who You’re Looking For

Follow men who look like him on Instagram, know what his lifestyle is like, what his potential is, and even how he dresses — create a mental vision board.

You’ll be less likely to be distracted by Mr. Close But Not Quite.

Get Good At Shaking It Off

Looking for love means meeting a lot of men who aren’t it. Use those missed connections to get great at leaving lingering feelings and other baggage with him instead of taking it with you. If you let them, past experiences can cloud your vision even when you’re looking right at Mr. Right.

Stay Open

They call it an “attitude of expectancy.” Get excited about the possibilities of any interaction and it’s more likely that positive things will happen.
