We’ve all heard of the Freshman 15, but did you know that the relationship 15 is also a thing? Recent studies have found that women are 63% more likely to put on weight when they’re in a relationship compared to when they’re single.
Spend enough time with a man and his eating habits tend to affect yours. After date night, Netflix and chill (and order in) and the meals you cook for him, the calories can add up.
Thankfully the relationship 15 doesn’t have to be inevitable. There’s a way to get comfortable with your new boo and still fit into the dress you wore on your first date. It just takes a little man-proofing for your diet.

Make Two Versions of the Same Meal
If it’s Mexican night, fix him a loaded burrito while you have a taco salad. You’ll be able to eat healthy without having to do twice the cooking.

Get Into Tea
If you’re dating the type of man who seems to be eating all the time, it can be tempting to join him. Try sitting with him and having a cup of peppermint tea instead.
The smell of mint is famous for helping get rid of the munchies when you’re not really hungry.

Sign Up for Meal Kits
There are several fun meal kit companies that send you a box of ingredients however often you’d like. The meals are gourmet and delicious and great for cooking together on date night.
And whatever you cook yourself is bound to have fewer calories than anything you can order in.

Order A Diet Drink
Cocktails are a common occurrence on dates. But overdo it on drinks and the calories can add up. Try ordering a rum and diet coke instead, or have a light beer to cut back on calories while still having fun.

Start Counting Your Calories
If the scale is starting to tip up, you may be doing something different without realizing it. Google your calories before you dig in so you’ll know where the extra calories are coming from.

Always Order Something Green
Whenever you order in. Eat a salad or veggies first, have a glass of water and then have your first slice of pizza. You’ll be less likely to finish off the box together.

Don’t Let Him Fix Your Plate
He’s likely to give you the portion he would eat, and it’s too tempting to finish it all. Serve yourself and you won’t fall into the habit of keeping up with his calories.

Find An Outdoor Activity You Like To Do Together
And make it one of your regular weekend plans.

Bring Him to the Healthy Side
You’re not going to convince him to give up all of his favorite foods. But throwing in a healthier version of a dish he likes, or even introducing him to vegetables can lead both of you down the path to long term health.

Make Him A Distraction
When you spend your weekends in with your new love, it can be tempting to mindlessly munch. Head to the bedroom instead and you might take your mind off of a snack (or at least burn off the calories first).

Get Competitive
Women aren’t the only ones who fall victim to the New Relationship 15. If you’ve both put on a few love pounds, make losing them a competition. And make the stakes big — like whoever wins gets to pick the next vacation destination.
