Adrienne Bailon Explains How She Knew Israel Was The One After Just Six Months
I’m not going to lie, Adrienne Bailon’s engagement to Israel Houghton is perplexing to me. It’s interesting because not only did the two date for just six months, she was engaged to someone else last year. And then there’s the history with his ex wife. It’s a mystery to me. A big one. So any time Adrienne speaks about their relationship, I’m all ears, trying to see if I can understand it a bit more.
Interestingly enough, the more I watch, the more questions I have. Adrienne recently sat down with “Hollywood Today Live” to discuss the proposal in Paris, and more interestingly, how she knew Israel was the one.
“We were vacationing in Europe. We had just gone to Greece and then we ended up coming back to Paris. And I was surprised with my parents showing up. And I didn’t know. There was some trickery going on. My parents being there was so special to me. They actually were celebrating twenty years of marriage. And I thought, originally, that we were just celebrating them and obviously when the surprise happened, I was super excited and super happy. So, I can’t wait.”
Then we got into the meat of the interview when Ross Matthews asked her how she knew Israel was the one after such a short courtship.
We were friends for three years before. And I think that makes a big difference. And being older, you kind of know what you want. I think when you’re younger you have to date around, kind of see what you like, what you don’t. There’s different things, honestly, from different people that I’ve dated that I’m like ‘I love this quality…don’t love this quality so much.’ So I’m going to be 33 this year. I know exactly what I wanted and he is everything I wanted and more. And we’ve been…he is my best friend. And I think that makes such a big difference. And we never thought we’d end up together which allows you not to have your representative there…When you like somebody and you’re going into the relationship liking them, you have ulterior motives. It’s like ‘I really want him to like me too.’ Where that wasn’t there. It was just like, ‘Oh hey what’s up.’ And we’d hang out with a bunch of friends and I would say ridiculous things out of my mouth that I probably wouldn’t say if I really liked him. And he got to know the real me and I love that.
You can watch the entire interview in the video below. The talk about her relationship begins around the one minute mark.
