Does Wedding Season Give You The Blues? A New Survey Says Yes
As someone planning to tie the knot in a little over a month, I can attest to the fact that wedding season is quite stressful. But aside from being trying for a bride and groom, a new study has found that it can be just as bad for just about everyone else. And we’re not talking about coming up with the money to attend weddings and pay for gifts this time around.
After surveying a total of 1,000 individuals between the ages of 18 and 55 using SmartSelect, Toluna Quicksurveys found in an exclusive survey that 34 percent of respondents admitted to feeling somewhat envious of friends and family saying “I do.” Of the 34 percent, nearly half of those people said such resentment caused tension between them and either the bride or groom to be. Even more interesting, 17 percent of people surveyed reported that they’ve gone as far as to turn down the offer to be in someone’s wedding due to their guilt over feelings of jealousy.
Out of those in a relationship or dating, it was pointed out that wedding season put unnecessary stress on some partnerships. Twenty three percent of respondents admitted to feeling more pressure to get married as they go through spring and summer wedding months. And 15 percent of people said attending the weddings of friends and family has caused drama in their relationship.
Others noted that they felt no pressure because they don’t plan to get married. Sound like you?
Forty percent of respondents shared that they don’t have a desire to marry in the future. About 41 percent of those surveyed overall who were unmarried said they were in no rush to tie the knot, so they don’t let wedding season phase them. And 21 percent really don’t care because those respondents stated that they don’t plan to marry their current partner.
But that was just a small group of people. Out of those surveyed who said they want to marry their current significant other, the total came to 79 percent. And the most interesting thing about that is that out of those people, 94 percent of them were in between the ages of just 18 and 34. The youngins are still optimistic!
All in all, what do you think of the stats and of wedding season in general? Do you see yourself in any of it? Is it a stressful time for you and your partner?
