If you’re a newlywed or recently engaged, you may receive the royal treatment from an airline of your choice. That is if you check in with them first. In an interview with Refinery 29, Melanie Garvey, a spokesperson for Emirates airline shared that customers are welcomed to ask if they can perform a proposal in-flight or receive some type of upgrade because of an engagement. “Customers are always welcome to ask, however, it very much depends on the bookings and availability. The Emirates cabin crew does make its best efforts to make the experience special for honeymooners,” she said.

While Emirates may wine and dine you in the air, you should know that Hawaiian Airlines may not do the same, because, after all, you’ll be traveling to their gorgeous island to celebrate your milestone anyway. Spokesperson Alison Croyle shared, “[We] always provides the aloha spirit to the many newlyweds traveling to our beautiful islands to celebrate their I Dos.” And while you may receive similar responses from many other airlines, Refinery 29 suggested some tips when trying to get the hookup from your favorite airline.

Manners Go A Long Way
Writer Allison Hope suggests that before you ask the flight attendants to upgrade your seats or meal, surprise them with gifts and, of course, the manners your mother taught you.

Be Loyal
If you’re a frequent flyer of a particular airline, you may receive more luck when asking for first class treatment when flying as newlyweds or engaged couple.

Make Your Request During Shoulder Season
Timing is everything and it’s important to request an upgrade or have your proposal happen in-flight during off-peak season. Refinery 29 even suggests traveling on a Tuesday afternoon or Saturday night to ensure your plans go unhinged.

But, keep in mind not everyone will receive the star treatment they desire so it’s best you do a couple of hail Mary’s to receive some extra favor.
