If your diet and workout plan don’t seem to be giving you the results you think they should, there could be quite a few reasons behind it. And we were surprised to find that a 9 to 5 might be one of those reasons.

We all know that sitting all day isn’t great for you. But did you know that your desk chair could be flattening out your behind? Or that skipping out on work breaks could make your body work even harder than normal to hold on to fat?

Thankfully, when you know the ways that your sedentary job is working against you, there are ways to work around it. When you’re trying to lose weight, making these small changes could make everything a lot easier.

Your Desk Chair Is Flattening Your Behind

Apparently sitting on your behind all day really can make it flatter. But it doesn’t have to be that way…

Work While You Work

These exercises you can do at your desk will help lift your behind even while you’re sitting on it.

You Burn 90 Percent Less Fat

When you’re sitting, your muscles go into relaxation mode and stop burning fat while they’re there. Stay that way for eight hours a day and it’s hard to get rid of fat even when you’re eating foods without it.

Get up Once Every Two to Three Hours

Even five minutes of walking around (or even standing at your desk) can bring your muscles back to fat-burning mode.

You Gain Weight

The desk job 15 is real. Several studies have found that folks who spend eight hours a day in a desk are much more likely to be overweight than those who have a job that keeps them on their feet.

Subtract Two and a Half Hours

People that sit just two and a half hours less can avoid the weight gain that comes with sitting at a desk for long hours. Can’t seem to cut the time? An hour or so of moderate activity like walking or cleaning can dial back the damage.

You Only Burn One Calorie per Minute

And unless you only eat eight calories for lunch, working a sedentary job all day makes it very easy to eat more calories than you burn.

Your Mood Takes a Dip

If you find yourself loving your job less as time goes on, your desk could be to blame. Several studies have discovered that anxiety (and even depression) can be more likely in people who sit all day. If you end up feeling depressed, you might start eating more.

Work It Out

When work is stressing you out, exercise is the best cure. It’s the perfect way to give yourself a natural high that will last longer.

First Dates Get Super Awkward

When you spend all day at your desk you can lose track of the last time you talked about anything that didn’t have to do with work. And when workaholics finally find time to start dating again, a lot of us find that our non-work conversation skills are very rusty, so we stuff our faces, or down a few drinks, waiting for our dates to get the ball rolling on chatter.

Make a Point to Make Lunch Dates

It’s important to stay in the loop before you fall too far out of it. Plus, having an engaging conversation with friends can help you focus on them, and less on eating heavily.
