While many of us were navigating the social scene of high school or college in 2003, Monica released her timeless musical composition So Gone that (if we’re being honest) became a R&B anthem for millennials.

The singer had us calling out boyfriends we had (or didn’t have) on their philandering ways or just screaming the song’s iconic bridge  to the top of our lungs. And if you can’t relate to singing or rapping the breakdown of that song, you’ll learn today.

A few weeks ago, Chance The Rapper decided to use the So Gone instrumental to pay recognition to his girlfriend and their relationship in a 16-bar freestyle. Since then, others have followed suit, putting their own twist to Monica’s hit song as they sing or rap about their significant others, career goals and even their love for makeup.

But before you enjoy the best of the #SoGoneChallenge, peep (since we’re stepping back into the early 2000s) how Monica joined in the fun and dropped a new verse to the song with Missy Elliott serving as her hype (wo)man, of course.
