Senior Producers Fired From “The Wendy Williams Show” Amid Controversial Remarks
Wendy William’s comments about Jesse Williams’ speech, the NAACP and HBCUs might have caused more damage than we initially assumed.
According to Page Six, “The Wendy Williams Show” has fired several producers including Jason Gabel and at least two other senior staff members.
Page Six reported that “The crew had a big party celebrating what they considered a season well done. The next day [some of them] got calls saying they’d been let go.”
Allegedly executives are interested in re-centering the show around current affairs and pop culture.
Representatives for the show refused to comment.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume that these executives were fired because of Wendy’s controversial comments. They may have been the ones to write them. Or they approved them when another one of her writers submitted them for consideration. Whoever wrote or approved the comments, Wendy is the one that said them. It’s Wendy’s name that is on the show and the line. I’m willing to bet that when she said these words, whether she actually believed them or not, she believed that they would do wonder for her ratings. Perhaps Wendy believed that her audience was Whiter than it really is.
After all, Wendy has made quite a name for herself attacking and degrading Black celebrities. Perhaps she thought the same would be true with Jesse Williams. But his words were too true and at a time like this, much needed.
