It’s no secret that wedding preparations take months to plan. From finding the perfect dress to locking down a venue, hiring a photographer and/or videographer and finalizing the guest list, there are so many bits and pieces involved in getting a couple to say “I do.” But after everything is said and done, guests and wedding participants alike look forward to dancing the night away. Not to mention, getting a slice of something sweet. And if you’re having or attending a wedding this summer, perhaps you will get to sample the latest wedding trend: the geode cake.

Made to mimic geode rock formations, which often contain crystals like amethyst and calcite, these delectable cakes look incredibly realistic, and almost too good to eat. The geode part of the cake is essentially made of rock candy, and dyed in colors like purple, green and blue.

Here are some of the best designs we’ve seen so far on Instagram. Hope these show stopping geode cakes taste as good as they look!

Just like the caption says, this green geode cake really is everything. And the magnificent topper and crystal accents give the cake that much more oomph.

Cake Love

This marble, gold and blue geode cake combination couldn’t get any more fierce.

Black and White

Two distinct geode patterns adorn this four-tier cake. Talk about a masterpiece.

Purple Gem

With the amethyst boldly cutting through the middle of the cake and the gold and white flowers, it looks like a lot of love (and time) went into this custom cake.

Butter Sweet

This green geode cake is accented with gold, a common element of this wedding cake trend.

Pure Art

This exquisite creation perfectly displays the intrinsic detail of the geode cake. No wonder this unique treat is so popular.

Picture Perfect

Something tells us this wedding cake trend won’t be going out of style anytime soon.

Meteor Madness

The colors and the geode-cut shape of this cake make it look like it’s in motion. Not an easy feat.

Crystal Explosion

Perhaps the largest geode “cut” we’ve seen, this cake is a pure green explosion.

A smooth, aquamarine geode cut surrounded by gold leaf accents and a golden flower.  Cake magic.

Rose Quartz

Pink marble swirl action with a large rose quartz geode feature make for one beautiful cake.

If this immaculate cake, adorned in peonies, was in a cake decorating competition, it would take first place.
