Because I was more wellness curious than committed at the time of the trip, I took a bit of a detour from the regularly scheduled program Sunday morning and ventured back into the city of Puerto Viejo to mix with the locals and pick up souvenirs. As luck (or the devil) would have it, I came across a delicious Jamaican cart called Take It Easy and had the best jerk chicken I’ve ever eaten in life. The yucca, cole slaw, and rice & beans were equally delicious.
Sunday afternoon, we took a trip to meet with herbal healer Don Candido Morales. The Costa Rican native is a well-known shawman with a reputation for diagnosing and curing various diseases that proceeds him. Using pressure points alone, Dr. Candido was able to tell me things about my health that’d only been revealed on recent blood tests by my internist here in America. He also had the most humble and welcoming spirit which assured even non-Spanish speakers they were in good hands.
