Broadway Star Audra McDonald Announces Pregnancy At 45
There must be something in the water because women 40 years and older, keep popping up pregnant. The latest of these women in Broadway star Audra McDonald.
The six-time Tony award winner took to Twitter today to share the good news.
45-year-old McDonald said the pregnancy came as a shock to the both she and her husband, fellow Broadway actor William Swenson, 42.
As a result of the pregnancy, the 45-year-old will take a leave from her current role in the Broadway production Shuffle Along in July. And according to the Associated Press, she’ll return this winter.
The couple married in 2012 at their home in Hudson, New York.
McDonald has one daughter from a previous marriage and Swenson has two sons from his ex wife.
I don’t know about anyone else but I happen to find these later-in-life pregnancies so inspiring. There’s so much pressure for women to squeeze love, career and children into the first thirty years of our lives. So much so, that for some women it can be near paralyzing. The Audra McDonalds, Eva Mendes’, Kim Fields, Halle Berrys and perhaps Janet Jacksons of the world prove that sometimes, our bodies will wait until the time is right.
Congratulations to this couple!
