“EBONY” IS THE 2nd MOST SEARCHED TERM ON PORNS SITES

Pornhub recently released their 2015 annual review, sharing the latest trends and patterns among porn viewers. The data confirmed what 4 years of online dating had already taught me; Black women are sexualized and fetishized in America. “Ebony” was the 2nd most popular category in the U.S. and “Black” was among the top 5 most searched terms.

* Interestingly, supporters of “The Trump” seem to be leading the charge here:

On the other hand, OK Cupid, (a popular dating site) released a study showing that Black women were the least contacted by all racial groups, besides Black men, on their site. For all of the clicks, views, swipes, and likes online, it seems black women are still the last to the altar. These men don’t want to take us out to dinner, but they are okay meeting up after midnight? We DESERVE a safe space for Black female sexuality and dating.

YOUR BAE(APP) IS OUT THERE

I’m glad to say that there is finally one platform making easier for Black women to escape fetishization and find men who want to date us for who we are. I recently met the founders of the dating app Bae (Before Anyone Else). Bae is simple. Swipe left on the men/women you are not interested in, and right on the ones you are. If you both swipe right on each other it’s a match and you can start chatting. Bae was founded by three Black men who wanted to create a place for their sisters to meaningfully date and find relationships. What I like the most about Bae is the quality of the matches and that it helps you find the right men; those interested in you that fit your interests. Example: If you went to an HBCU and prefer men who did as well, Bae will pick up on that and send you more of them to #swiperight.

To THE ALTAR
That sounds great, but what about the receipts, right? I spoke with Keren, a 34 year old event planner and Bae user that quickly made a connection with her (now) boyfriend Maurice. Keren loved that Maurice instantly asked her on and “actual date” shortly after they matched. He was serious and not interested in the usual “Netflix and chill” dates that she has experienced in the past. She also appreciated Maurice’s consideration and ability to move at her pace. Months later, they have met each other’s families and are talking about marriage.

Bae has differentiated itself in the crowded dating app landscape by keeping female users’ needs top of mind. The app’s curated algorithm presents the best possible matches, users enjoy more chats per match than Tinder and also have the option to flag and remove users who post inappropriate content.

Another user, Dee, a 25 year who works in technology operations, commented that she felt extremely safe on Bae because users are verified through Facebook. Dee was excited about the large variety and types of men who she had met on the app.

Ladies, I’m HERE for Bae because we deserve more. What about you? Check out the app here!
