It’s funny how we come to know the law of attraction as more than just looks as we get older. It’s actually a feeling, the axing of spoken word for raw emotions.
According to a new study by Prof. Silke Anders, attractiveness is actually related to how well we can interpret someone’s emotions through their body language. In simpler terms, the ability to comprehend another’s emotions makes for successful social interaction, which in turn makes you more likely to be attracted to the person you are interacting with. “What I believe makes our findings really exciting is the fact that understanding and personal attraction seem to depend on both the sender’s brain and the perceiver’s brain, and on how well they match,” said Prof. Anders.
To collect data, participants were asked to watch different persons experiencing various emotions. After the process, they found that when participants thought they could understand another person’s emotion, the more they felt attracted to that person. Prof. Anders went on to explain that if someone sent the emotional signal of fear in the form of a facial expression, if the other person efficiently processes it the other person processing it in turn would feel attracted to the sender.
So, don’t fret about looking perfect for the first date. Just be yourself and hopefully the non-verbal communication between you and your date sparks flames.
