Need some inspiration to get up and back in the gym? Look no further than 78-year-old Shirley Webb.
According to ESPN, just two years ago, the most physical activity Webb was comfortable doing was mowing the lawn. Moving up and down stairs, trying to get up off the floor were simple activities that required a lot of energy and aid from and for Webb.
So she decided to do something to make herself more active, joining a gym called Club Fitness in Wood River, Illinois with her granddaughter and enlisted the services of trainer John Wright.
Two years later, not only is Webb getting up off the floor and moving up and down the stairs unassisted, but she’s also lifting some hefty weights. She’s recently gone viral for this video of her deadlifting 225 pounds like a boss:
And Webb’s strength has allowed her to set records in both Illinois and Missouri competitions, both in age and weight groups. According to ESPN, she’s hoping to set an American record in June, and after that, continue to get her lift on until she can’t lift anymore.
“I have no intention of stopping right now,” Webb told ESPN. “When I go to the gym and I work out, when I leave, I feel so much better than I did when I went in, and I just feel so good. I feel tremendous.”
