I’m not a pet person so when I was sent this story on cat and dog manicures I instantly rolled my eyes at people doing too much on the pet domestication front. But then I actually read the article (because reading is fundamental to forming an opinion) and realized these colorful nails aren’t just for show, they’re actually protecting pet owners’ furniture.

Manufactured by Soft Paws, these nail caps are the answer to punctured couches, shredded throw pillows and sliced curtains. Created by veterinarian Dr. Toby Wexler as a humane and effective solution to scratching problems, the company swears most pets don’t even know they’re wearing the caps and they’re easy to apply — just fill each nail cap with the non-toxic adhesive provided in the nail kit and slide it on over their nail. You can also shorten them with nail clippers and cats and dogs will still be able to resume their normal stretching and scratching, just without damage to your home goods. And they’re cute to look at!

Check out a few of felines flexing in their Soft Paws below. Would you buy these for your cat or dog?
