Get It Girl: Channing Dungey Becomes President Of ABC
While we’ve been exceptionally proud of Shonda Rhimes’ accomplishments over at ABC, we also knew that we needed more like her, in various positions throughout, not just ABC, but all other networks. The recent promotion of Channing Dungey to ABC’s network president is certainly a step in the right direction.
According to The New York Times, Dungey’s ladder up came after a bit of tension among executives who couldn’t seem to come to an agreement over creative control. As a result former entertainment president Paul Lee was ousted and Dungey who was the network’s former drama chief took his spot, becoming the first Black network president.
Dungy, 46. has worked on series like “Scandal” and “Once Upon a Time.”
Ben Sherwood, president of the Disney-ABC Television group said, “Channing is a gifted leader and a proven magnet for top creative talent, with an impressive record of developing compelling, breakthrough programming.”
Dungey, who cites Lee as a valued mentor and friend, said she is “thrilled and humbled” by the opportunity.
Congratulations to Ms. Dungey! May many more follow her.
