Danai Gurira just added another iconic role under her belt, being cast as Afeni Shakur in the upcoming Tupac biopic, All Eyez On me.
Gurira has already proven to be a force to be reckoned with as Michonne on AMC’s The Walking Dead and now we’ll see another side of the Zimbabwean-American actress as the revolutionary Black Panther activist mother of one of the greatest rapper’s of all time. According to Deadline:
“The film covers Tupac’s rise to stardom as a hip-hop artist and actor, as well as his imprisonment and prolific, controversial stint at Death Row Records, where he was steeped in the East Coast/West Coast rap war.”
Demetrius Shipp, Jr., who bears a striking resemblance to Pac, has been cast as the biopic’s lead and Jamal Woolard will reprise his role as Biggie in Notorious for this project as well. Production on All Eyez On Me is already underway in Atlanta under the direction of Benny Boom as rap fans eagerly await a release date for this movie that’s been several years in the making.
