Kendrick Lamar is arguably at the top of the rap game right now, comfortably sitting on his west coast-based throne.

However, the 28-year-old Compton native is not at all naive about his success, understanding that his relentless hustle, grind, and hard work helped him achieve his goals. After receiving 11 Grammy nominations–making him the second most nominated in a year, right after Michael Jackson’s 12–  the rapper decided to school the youth on just how he got to where he is today in a motivational video titled “Hard Work.”

In the nearly two-minute visual, Kendrick is seen mentoring a young boy on the streets of Los Angeles. From playing a one-on-one game of basketball to simply walking down the street and being greeted by anxious fans, the boy begins to comprehend Kendrick’s fame. “You get all the girls,” he says. Kendrick shrugs off the young boy’s notion of fame, reminding him that putting in hard work is the ultimate key to success.
