Last year we told you that LisaRaye McCoy would be making her directorial debut with a film titled Skinned, which focuses on colorism in the Black community. The project went on to snag a “Best Independent Feature” film nomination at the Bronze Lens Film Festival, and now, McCoy is gearing up for the movie’s television debut.

As previously reported, the storyline follows the journey of Jolie (Jasmine Burke), a dark-skinned young woman who struggles with extremely low self-esteem. The teen’s mother (McCoy) and two sisters are of a lighter complexion, which adds to her angst.

After enduring years of cruelty brought on by her complexion, Jolie turns to skin lightening products—a decision with consequences that come back to haunt her in ways she never imagined.

Skinned will air on TV One Saturday, January 9. If you haven’t done so already, check out the trailer below.
