Having a baby is such a joyous life-changing event to be thrilled about. If you are able to host your own baby shower on a budget or have a friend host a baby shower for you, it is a great opportunity to have some fun, connect with your girls, and even learn some life lessons from other mommies. Your body is going through so many changes and the last thing you need in your life is drama and confusion while planning your shower. To avoid that, keep it simple, enlist the help of girlfriends you trust and take it one step at a time. And remember that it’s OK if you have to cut some standard traditional baby shower things…it will only make your shower more unique to be different, anyways.
Having your shower at a venue is not going to be cheap. If you are really on a tight budget then your house or a friends house is your best bet. There are other options like recreation centers and parks that might require a permit but can also be affordable.
Physical invitations and mailing them out can cost anywhere from $40 or $50 and up. Sites like evite and paperless post offer an email invite that is free and pretty easy to use. The nice thing about those sites is that they have a variety of cool themes to choose from and you have the option to be sent updates on rsvp’s and things as they change. You can also let your guests know if any major things change which is something that you can’t do with a standard invitation.
For flowers on a budget you may want to try paper floral arrangements. If done right, they can look beautiful and unique. If it’s real flowers that you want ask a friend who has a garden if you can use some of their flowers for centerpieces or buy one or two bouquets from your local grocery store and only use one flower per table in a skinny vase.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
Catering can get really pricey but you can become your own little chic caterer. You can visit discount stores like Costco or Sams Club that offer things in bulk. You can buy platters of food and frozen hors d’oeuvres. If you want to make the trays yourself keep it simple. Make mini sandwiches, cheese and fruit and call it a day. Pair it with a nice punch, water bottles, and one or two different desserts like cake or homemade cupcakes or brownies.
This is where your DIY skills come into play. If you aren’t super crafty but have a girlfriend who is then let her help you with the décor. Check out some of the DIY baby blogs and chat with the salespeople at your local craft stores for inspiration. You may even be able to get matching dishes and cups for next to nothing at a thrift shop.
This is when your lovely ipod comes into good use. Create a playlist that is fun and personal to your character.
