Guess what, your kids aren’t the only ones that get stir-crazy in the winter? The weather isn’t the best so we’re all they’re spending a lot of time inside, and that can lead to boredom. Plus, winter is prime time for kiddos to catch the sniffles, pass colds onto each other (and their parents), and decide that wiping noses with tissues is optional. Eww. But, there are ways to keep kids healthy this winter, and they may not be ones that you’ve thought of before.

Let Them Get Wild
The more our kiddos move around and exert energy, the better their bodies will be able to fight germs. Think about it this way: adults are told to exercise to keep our immune systems thriving, and that works for kids too. Whether you let them pay the Wii, create an obstacle course around the house, or just have a good, old-fashioned pillow fight in their room, you’re helping their little systems get a boost.

Get the Fun Vitamins
Vitamins don’t sound exciting to kids, but if you can make it fun they’ll be all about taking them each and every day. Hit up your local drug store for the “fun” vitamins with different flavors and textures. Chewable and gummy versions are always hits in our house.

Wipe Knobs and Switches
Remember when I told you that kids think wiping their noses with tissue is optional? Well, they also think that washing their hands is optional too. Then, they touch all kinds of doorknobs and light switches. Give the kids a few rags and some small water bottles filled with cleaner (We like the Multi-Surface Cleaner from The Honest Co.), and have them wipe down the knobs and switches a few times a week. It’s a fun little chore for them, and it gets all of those germs off parts of the home that everyone touches.

Open The Windows
Over the years, I’ve found that stifling winter air in our home turns everyone into crazy people. So, even though it’s super cold outside, we open the windows at least once a day. The new air takes the place of the stale, germ-filled air, and we instantly feel better. Bonus: we play a little game to see who can stand in front of the window the longest. Don’t worry, they don’t last long – Mom wins!

Get Outside!
Even though the weather outside is frightful, we all need to get out of the house for a little bit. If you can get outside to build a snowman, do it. Need to run to the grocery store? Get everyone dressed and ready to go. Time out of the home will refresh your kids, inside and out.
