CNN Describes Freddie Gray As The “Son Of An Illiterate Heroin Addict”

Monday, Officer William Porter’s trial began in a case surrounding the death of Freddie Gray—and CNN has kicked off the foolishness that we knew would come at some point.

Hours ago, the news outlet published a report on the trial, in which they randomly described Gray as a “the son of an illiterate heroin addict.”

In no time, the news organization’s Twitter mentions were filled with tweets demanding to know why these details were relevant to the case. Gray’s mother’s decisions and lifestyle choices have absolutely nothing to do with the case. She was not present during his arrest and was in no way involved with the circumstances surrounding his death. We should also note that the reporter made no mention of the backgrounds of the parents of the six police officers who are actually on trial. However, we all know how mainstream media takes pleasure in vilifying Black men—especially those who are victims of police brutality.
