A fun and family friendly Thanksgiving-inspired cooking segment on FOX News’ Fox and Friends went from peachy to just awkward and down right tense in a matter of seconds when Fox co-host Brian Kilmeade asked anchor Harris Faulkner, “Do you make Kool-Aid?” (Yes, this is the “WTF” moment where you swiftly execute a face palm and shake your head.)
To begin, in the clip we see Faulkner showing viewers how to make her special peach cobbler, mentioning a summer version of the dish she likes to make, but using strawberries instead. Apparently, this prompted Kilmeade to envision a delicious summertime refreshment, such as Kool-Aid — supposedly.
When Kilmeade asked Faulkner the question, she answered, “Uh, no, I don’t make Kool-Aid, but I made an adult beverage for us,” with a confused look on her face. Co-host Steve Doocy also gave Kilmeade a weird look, nearly astonished at the words that came out of his mouth, especially on air.
“It reminds me of summer,” Kilmeade then offered, realizing that his comment may have been taken the wrong way.
Faulkner, whose daughter assisted her in the segment, kept things professional throughout the whole clip. Kudos to her because if it were me, I’d have a painfully hard time censoring my reply to such a racially-loaded question.
While some are questioning whether or not Kilmeade’s question was racially motivated or meant to be demeaning or racist, it’s kind of hard not to comprehend the stereotype of African-Americans liking foods like fried chicken and watermelon or his suggested Kool-Aid beverage.
