A woman’s love affair with hair ties is one that’s unbreakable. (Don’t you usually sport yours like a security blanket on your wrist for whenever you may need to pull your hair off of your face?) Well, that was until now. One woman’s horrific story about her hair tie may have you thinking twice before slipping one on your wrist again.
Recently, Audree Kopp, a Kentucky woman, began to grow weary when she noticed there was a huge bump growing on her wrist. After seeking advice from her doctor and being prescribed antibiotics, the bump continued to grow. Kopp ended up having to get surgery and later found out that it was glitter hair tie to blame for the growing mass on her wrist.
According to Kopp’s doctor, he believes that the bacteria from her hair tie got in through her pores and hair follicles, ultimately causing a triple infection. Yikes! All from a hair tie? Kopp thought the same thing, not truly believing that her hair tie could do such damage.
“I thought that it was a spider bite, or something else, not from wearing hair ties,” she told WLKY, via People. “It could have been a whole different ballgame, once it gets into your bloodstream, people have been known to go into a coma, your body shuts down it could have been way worse,” she said.
No word as to whether the glitter from the hair tie was the main culprit or just the hair tie in general, but let this be a warning to all the ladies who keep hair ties on their wrist.
