Few things can ruin a chic black ensemble like unsightly and stubborn deodorant stains. Thankfully, there’s a hack for that that doesn’t require cleaning products.

According to Julie Edelman of The Accidental Housewife, the colored foam wrap that drapes the top of most dry cleaner hangers acts as a magical eraser for fresh deodorant stains.

After removing the foam from the hanger, Edelman advises folding it in half and gently rubbing it over the affected area until the stain disappears.

If you’re not necessarily in a rush or looking to wear the garment immediately, or if the deodorant has already set into the material, the stain can be removed with water and a bit of salt. Anna of Ask Anna Mosley recommends wetting the affected area and sprinkling salt over it. Allow it to sit for a couple of hours. Before tossing the garment in the washing machine, wet it again and scrub it with a bit of salt.
