“Sisters It’s So Important That We Love On Each Other” This Video of Essence Atkins Washing Feet Might Make You Cry

There is something so inspiring to me about seeing people humble themselves to be of service to others.

And seeing celebrities, who are often characterized and guilty of being self-centered and out of touch with the real world, humble themselves in this way, is always remarkable.

In a video that is trending all around Facebook, actress Essence Atkins gets down on her hands and knees to wash the feet of Radio One Promotions Coordinator, Allison Person.

Atkins visited the Atlanta station to promote her new film Things Your Man Won’t Do. During the visit the women joked about things your man won’t do and then the conversation transitioned into “What Would Jesus Do?”

And in the moment, Atkins got down on her knees to wash Person’s feet.

The act itself would have been unorthodox and certainly noteworthy; but it was Essence’s words as she was down there, that has made the video so popular on the internet.

“You know sisters, it’s so important that we love on each other. So important. I know I just met you today but I know the road that you walk. And I want you to know that you’re beautiful. And I want you to know that I got you and I support you and I love you. And if we don’t give that to each other y’all, we are lost, we will never be what we can be.

So I get down here on my knees, the way Jesus got down and I give to you and I say thank you. Thank you for your strength, for your beauty, for your tenacity, for your integrity, for your intelligence, for your kindness. Thank you.”

Person shared her thoughts on the experience in a Facebook post.

It was a beautiful moment and reminder that none of us is any better than the other. It’s also a call to action for some of us to start serving in any way we can.
