Thousands Raised For Homeless Single Dad Following Viral Video

November 9, 2015  |

Last month, a single father by the name of James Moss relocated from New York to Denver in hopes of providing a better life for his 2-year-old son, Zhi Moss; however, shortly after arriving in the city, James’ plans fell through, and he found himself both homeless and jobless due to a series of unfortunate events. Days later, he crossed paths with motivational speaker Leon Logothetis during a chance encounter. It just so happened that Leon was out and about with a cameraman gathering footage for his random acts of kindness campaign, #GoBeKind.

“Everything I do is for him,” James explained in the video. “The reason I made this move is for him. To be in a peaceful place, the mountains, I want him to experience things that I missed growing up.”

After learning more about James’ story, Leon presented the struggling father with $1,000 and a 7-night stay at a local hotel.

The video quickly went viral and inspired a woman by the name of Kayla Heskett to launch a Go Fund Me campaign with the intended goal of helping this single father get back on his feet. Heskett explains:

James is currently in a shelter with his almost two-year-old son. He currently has a job as a barber but has no reliable transportation. We are trying to raise money for James to get a reliable vehicle with the brutal Colorado weather that is coming so that his son won’t be out in freezing temperatures walking to work with his dad. (James takes his son to work with him currently because he’s in need of daycare). Let’s make this happen for him and his son and show him some love and that there are still good people left in this world.

To date, $35,745 has been raised. Numerous supporters have volunteered to provide clothing, a car seat and other items to James and Zhi. Naturally, James is overwhelmed by all of the donations and words of encouragement that have poured in since his move to Colorado.

“You guys are so awesome; I love you all. You’re like family to me right now,” James said in an update video.

Oh yeah, and he intends to pay it forward.

Stories like this one can definitely restore your faith in humanity. Best of luck to James and Zhi.
