Stella McCartney Designs Post-Double Mastectomy Bra For Breast Cancer Survivors

September 27, 2015  |

English fashion designer Stella McCartney is known for sending feminine silhouettes down Fashion Week runways, but one initiative that is close to her heart is making some of the toughest women feel feminine and beautiful.

McCartney, whose mother died of breast cancer in 1998, has continued the fight and campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness by creating lingerie lines in support of BCA Month.

This year, McCartney has launched a new range of pink lingerie for both breast cancer survivors and supports. First is the Alina Playing set, which is a “hot pink, ultra-feminine contour bra and bikini-style panty set. The second set is the the Louise Listening, a post-double mastectomy operation compression bra, named after her late mother, Linda Louise McCartney.

The rose-colored bra, made of cotton and lace, was designed to bring comfort and confidence to women who have recently undergone surgery and are in the post-mastectomy healing process, People StyleWatch reported.

“We wanted to bring something feminine and beautiful into a bra that is taboo,” Stella said in a statement. “There are so many different emotions attached to the tragic realities of having had a double mastectomy, many cultures are unaccepting and terrible things happen to women both physically and emotionally. And we just wanted to make something that allows women undergoing this to have something to be proud of, something with no shame attached.”

“We wanted women to know that you can still be feminine, have your sensuality, have all of the things that are attached to being a woman and that part of your body can still feel beautiful on the outside, as well as the inside,” she added.

The Alina Playing set will retail for $55 to $100 exclusively at beginning Oct. 1, with a percentage of the proceeds being donatted to the Linda McCartney Centre in the U.K., the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Australia. And the Louise Listening Bra will retail for $125 exclusively at beginning Oct. 1 as well, and all proceeds will benefit the Hello Beautiful Foundation.
