Lifetime has another celeb-centered biopic in the works, and we’re hoping that it’s not a repeat of the fiasco that was Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.
According to Variety, executives at the cable channel recently gave the green light on a TV movie about the life of Grammy Award-winning songstress, Toni Braxton.
The film is reported to be based on—in addition to bearing the same title as—Braxton’s 2014 memoir, Un-Break My Heart, which addressed the singer’s battle with lupus, financial struggles, her divorce and her son’s autism diagnosis.
Braxton is at the helm of the project, fulfilling roles as both an executive producer and actress. Joining the legendary vocalist in the executive producer role will be Craig Baumgarten, Erik Kritzer, and Marcus Grant. The treatment for the biographical TV film was penned by Susan McMartin, and Vondie Curtis-Hall will direct. Production is slated to begin later this year.
Considering that Miss Braxton has her hand in the pot, we’re hopeful that the finished product will be something that she can be proud of.
