At some point, it’s only natural to question how much more crap you can take. Certain seasons in our life can really make it hard to remain hopeful as the walls continue to get closer and closer together. Rather than wave the white flag of defeat, here are some pointers on how not to let life’s troubles bring you down.

Setbacks aren’t forever

One of the most important things to remember during a trial is that nothing lasts forever. This too shall pass. That might be hard to grasp in the moment, but it’s important to understand that setbacks will eventually go away. Just keep on trucking.

Prepare yourself for battle

Honey, the best things in life never come easy. You need to prepare yourself for battle, both mentally and emotionally speaking. Read, listen and watch things that will motivate you to endure the hardships ahead.


There’s a reason why therapy works (most of the time). Put your thoughts and frustrations to a journal that will allow you to reflect, and more importantly, look back on all the hurdles you were able to accomplish.

Count the little things

Life can truly be a beautiful thing if you stop and count your blessings. Sometimes, you might think there’s nothing else to live for until you take inventory of your life. Small blessings certainly add up.

Create small goals

Mountains can become molehills if you work to tackle your problems in smaller pieces. Look for ways to break up your troubles into more digestible parts. Not only will this make victory an easier reality to obtain, but also helps to reiterate your inner strength.

Limit negative criticism

Naysayers. Negative thoughts.

Ain’t nobody got time for that!

It goes without saying that you need to silence as many negative sources in your life as possible. The last thing you need is for your self-esteem and willpower to take a hit.

Stay efficient

What, did you think sitting back and letting your problems take care of themselves would actually work? In order to see change, you first need action. Work as hard as you can to make your troubles go away.

Don’t give up!

Maybe one of the reasons why you haven’t overcome your troubles is because you haven’t visualized it. In addition to journaling, spend a little time each day visualizing your success. Can you picture it?

Let it go/Stop worrying

Why rob yourself of what little peace you can have each day by worrying about a problem that’s beyond your control? At some point, you really need to let it go. If you feel you’ve done all you can, there’s really not much else you can do — aside from pray and remain hopeful.

Remove as much worry from your plate as possible.

Stay turned up on optimism

Your mindset is intertwined with your life. If you constantly look at the glass as half full, can you expect to stay optimistic — and do the things necessary to actually rid yourself of trouble? Kudos if you can, though most damn themselves to a journey full of complacency and settling.

There’s power in your thoughts and the words you speak. Tell yourself you have what it takes and keep filling your spirit with optimistic thoughts.
