For The Makeup Lover In You: Milani Cosmetics On How To Get Taraji’s “Tonight Show” Look

September 2, 2015  |

The makeup world can be a mystery to some and an obsession to others. Quite often, women of color struggle to find the right products that mesh well with our diversely beautiful and melanin-rich skin tones. Well, the struggle is over. I will be exploring several mainstream cosmetic lines to find products that work best for women of color, as well as application tips and the latest makeup trends in general. Whether you are a makeup all day everyday kind of girl or if you wear makeup only on special occasions, there is something out there just for you.

This time around, we’re putting the spotlight on Milani Cosmetics. Inspired by Italian style, specifically the culture of Milan, Milani provides a full product line in hundreds of different shades and formulas. From foundation and concealer to lipstick and nail polish, there is something for everyone. The brand believes “You’ll find yourself in Milani Cosmetics. The very best version of you.”

Last week, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Milani graced our television screens by way of everybody’s favorite Cookie, Taraji P. Henson. Thanks to Milani, Henson looked gorgeous as she played “Fast Family Feud” with Fallon. The late-night host couldn’t even stop mentioning how beautiful she looked. Milani products last all morning and on throughout the night, which is appealing to many celebrities who need to look their best as the cameras roll.

Want Henson’s Tonight Show look? Never fear! Celebrity makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff provides a list of products she used on Henson and a few tips on how to apply the makeup.

“I started with clean moisturized and primed skin. I then used Milani Creme to Powder Foundation ($8.99) in Warm Honey to even out her complexion and create a flawless template,” Sherrif said. “I used Milani Secret Cover Concealer Cream ($5.19) in Golden Beige under the eye area and to clean up any lipstick bleeding around the corners of the mouth. I then softly contoured her cheeks with the Deep Tan shade of the Secret Cover Concealer Cream; by following the natural bone structure of her face we give a great contour which looks chiseled and sleek. I took the same product and slightly contoured her nose using my fingers until it blended in. I applied the Rose Powder Blush ($7.99) in American Beauty Rose to the apples of her cheeks and used the Baked Blush ($8.49) in Dolce Pink for strobing, which is a technique that mimics what light naturally does.”

“For the eyes, I started with the Eye Shadow Primer ($5.99) and then opted for the Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner ($8.49) since we wanted to keep the look simple,” Sherrif said, “yet sleek and fashion forward. I lined the lower lash line on the watermark with the Supreme Kohl Kajal Eyeliner ($5.99) and then applied the Runway Lashes ($4.99) and Total Lash Cover Mascara ($4.99) to provide volume, and define, build and curl lashes.”

“I kept Taraji’s brows natural with the brand’s new Stay Put Brow Color ($6.99) in Brunette,” Sherrif said. “I used the angled brow brush following her natural shape to define and sculpt without looking overdrawn. I also love the Brow Shaping Clear Wax ($4.49) for creating molded brows that stay on all day even through the hot lights of filming for television. I finished the look with Milani’s new Amore Matte Lip Crème ($8.99) which worked amazing with Taraji’s skin tone.”
