“The Game” might be a thing of the past, but Jay Ellis is far from unemployed. According to Deadline, the actor has been cast alongside Yvonne Orji in Issa Rae’s HBO comedy pilot, “Insecure.”
Ellis will play Rae’s depressed and unemployed boyfriend who has been promising to get his life together for the past four years. Overall, the series will zone in on the “awkward experiences and racy tribulations of modern day African-American woman through the eyes of Issa Dee, played by Rae.” Orji has been cast to play Rae’s best friend, Molly, who is winning in her professional life, but extremely unsuccessful when it comes to love and romance.
The script was co-written by Rae and Larry Wilmore. The project will be directed by Melina Matsoukas. Prentice Penny will be serving as the showrunner for the pilot, as well as an executive producer alongside Rae, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry.
We’ve been waiting to see Rae on a television series ever since the days of “Awkward Black Girl.” Hopefully, everything works out with this show. We’re definitely looking forward to it.
