Disaster Or Great Demonstration? Missouri Oath Keepers To Arm Black Men In Ferguson With Rifles
The Missouri Oath Keepers plan to hold an open carry march through Ferguson and are hoping to gather 50 Black men to attend carrying AR-15 rifles along with the organization. The event, scheduled to happen within the next few weeks, will be used to demonstrate and flex the open carry rights of all citizens reported Red Dirt News. But is this a great demonstration or a set up for disaster?
Just earlier this month a San Francisco man was taken down by over 10 cops when they believed his crutches were a weapon… his crutches. And we are all too familiar with the can’t run while Black, or carry ice tea and skittles while Black, or cigs while Black, or toy swords or toy guns while Black conundrum because apparently everything on a Black person can be mistaken for a weapon. So, what happens when 50 Black men are actually carrying rifles in Ferguson? We just might find out sooner rather than later.
In recent protests, The Missouri chapter of Oath Keepers could be seen standing beside Ferguson demonstrators; however they were checked by police who stated their long barrel rifles were not welcomed. The Oath Keepers are comprised of current and former military and police officers who’ve sworn an oath to the Constitution over laws that may violate citizens’ rights.
The men with rifles walked along and spoke with Ferguson protestors, reminding them of their 2nd Amendment rights. However, many protestors could be seen on social media complaining about the Oath Keepers’ presence and the fact that it further showed their implicit white supremacy over our culture.
“Every person we talked to said if they carried they’d be shot by police. That’s the reason we’re going to hold this event and it will be a legal demonstration,” said Oath Keepers’ head Sam Andrews. “I’m sick and tired of law enforcement who doesn’t think they have to abide by the law. They’re narcissistic and that guy (Belmar) discredited my men.”
However, while his men are simply being discredited, ours are being forcefully thrown to the ground, pepper-sprayed and gunned down.
This isn’t the first demonstration that will involve Black men legally holding guns. This spring, a group affiliated with the new Black Panther Party marched in Texas and were not attacked for expressing their liberties.
“We’re interested in educating people about their rights and defending their community,” member party Erick Khafre said at the time.
But the sad and real thing is that I am scared and tired. I am very much in support of our right to bear arms (the rules do need some work though). I just wonder if partnering with the Oath Keepers is the direction to go.
What do you think of the planned demonstration?
