Black Lives Matter! Janelle Monae & Jidenna Protest In NYC
The leading lady of Wondaland Records Janelle Monae and labelmate Jidenna will be hitting the streets of New york City today to perform new music inspired by the unfortunate killings of Black men and women due to police brutality. The team will also be leading a march through the city to protest the past two years of injustice African Americans continue to face in America.
Janelle and her team could be seen marching through the streets of Philadelphia yesterday making their voices heard around the city. Janelle and Jidenna led speeches prior to the rally and could be seen walking among the Philly Student Union participants as they held signs reading “Black Joy,” “Black Lives Matter,” and “Black Girl Magic.”
We’re betting NYC will be just as powerful as the artists use their platform to stand against police brutality.
“They question lives forever until it gets the answer it deserves. Won’t you say their names?” Janelle said with much seriousness and intention as the crowd gathered around her.
Jidenna could also be seen leading chants, “Michael Brown! Say His Name! Michael Brown! Say His Name!” as others joined in. This, just a year after the death of Michael Brown and the city of Ferguson has again reached a state of emergency, showing not much has changed.
Janelle and her team will be at the Flatiron Park in New York City today from 11am to 3pm performing new protest music and leading another rally. We salute artists who take their message and activism from the studios to the streets and look forward to all Wondaland Records will bring to the movement.
“NYC Fandroids! Experience Wondaland and Toyota tomorrow at Flatiron Park from 11 Am to 3 PM before your show experience!” wrote Janelle on Instagram.
Will you join Janelle and her team if they come to a city near you?
