Misty Copeland Reveals Recent Engagement: “I Can’t Believe My Life Right Now!”
Misty Copeland is having quite the year. In addition to to making history by becoming the first Black woman to take on the lead role in the American Ballet Theatre’s Swan Lake, she’s also preparing to take on another exciting role: wife.
In the September issue of Essence, the 32-year-old revealed that she recently got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Olu Evans.
“I can’t believe my life right now,” she gushed.
The beauty also dished on her desire to give back to the generation of dancers coming up behind her.
“I’m going to continue to be who I am and my experiences as a Black woman have made me who I am,” says Copeland. “All of a sudden now that I am in this position, I’m not going to say ‘I’m just a dancer.’ It’s a huge deal because I’m a Black woman. That’s why it’s a big deal.”
