When Melissa Rodrigues son told her that there was a stranger outside his window with a light at night she thought it was just her toddlers imagination. The New Zealand mom soon found out that her toddler was telling the truth when she found footsteps in her backyard days later. After the footsteps scare, the Rodrigues family decided to set up a trap with their home surveillance app called Salient Eye and it finally confirmed the terrifying truth.
“At 5:30 in the morning he let out an absolutely gut-wrenching scream from his room,” Rodrigues told Stuff.co.nz of her 3-year-old son, who woke in terror on June 26 for the third day in a row. “I knew something wasn’t right.”’
“It gave me the shock of a lifetime because, even though I was waiting for it, I wasn’t expecting to see him,” she said.
Melissa also gave praise to the app saying “It meant we didn’t have to put ourselves in harm’s way to look for him, and with the email alert, we were on the phone to the police in literally seconds,” she told the paper. “This app literally helped our whole community.”
According to their site, Salient Eye turns any android device into a full home camera security system. The Salient Eye application uses your phone’s camera to sense motion and makes alarm sounds when a break-in occurs. Salient Eye home security app catches intruders red-handed and immediately sends you pictures via email and SMS.
Police did identify and arrest a man based off of the camera system but are still not sure what the man wanted.
Senior Sergeant Anita Dixon said: “This incident was able to be sorted out very quickly, thanks to the excellent information supplied by the family, and the police working quickly, together with the help of the mobile phone app.”
