Children arguing and disagreeing with their parents is nothing new. But a young man in Alabama took his argument with his mom to a brutal level.
22-year-old Tyler Blansit was arrested on Saturday for the murder of his mother. Officials say she was found beaten to death behind her home on Friday and that her son admitted to doing it over an altercation about his grades.
Officials released that Tyler was a biology major and student at the University of Alabama – Birmingham.
Tyler was the one to make the 911 call and Sheriff Jimmy Harris said on Saturday…
“Usually we’ll have calls where a parent has whipped a child because of grades, a child has run away because of bad grades, but we’ve never had anything like this happen,”
And according to Waff:
According to the sheriff, Tyler told investigators that he struck Sherry in the head with a baseball bat during the height of their confrontation.
Harris said it appears the mother’s death was the result of blunt-force trauma to the head, but that an autopsy will provide further information. Sherry Blansit’s body was transported to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville.
Investigators said they found scratches on Tyler’s body when they met him at the scene. He also sported a knot on his head.
Sheriff Harris called the scene “brutal.” Experts from Jacksonville State University were called to assist in collecting forensic evidence.
He said that despite Tyler’s confession, they are still asking the public to come forward with any information which may help investigators.
“It’s just one of those things you can’t explain; we’ll never be able to explain what went through his mind, why he snapped and did this,” Harris said.
Tyler Blansit is currently in the DeKalb County Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
