Giuseppe Zanotti Announces Beyoncé Collaboration

March 22, 2015  |

Giuseppe Zanotti started his career in music and then eventually turned to fashion so the recent announcement about his collaboration with Beyonce makes total sense. His first collection was released in 1995 and fast forward to today, he is well-known for creating shoes that are chic, refined, and unique.

Check out what the Italian native had to say about the struggles he went through to reach for his dreams, how he started his fashion empire, and why he is excited about working with Beyonce. Declan Eytan from Forbes got the opportunity to sit down with Giuseppe.

“My passion for music started around the age of fourteen, when I started playing guitar. By the time I turned seventeen I started working for a local independent radio station as a DJ. They allowed me to play the type of music that didn’t exist in Italy at the time. I would play soul music and jazz-funk, like the Detroit Emeralds, Weather Report, Hamilton Bohannon and of course the Jackson 5. These songs were like UFOs in Italy during the Seventies (laughs).”

“I’ve always designed, and I would literally design everything I’d see: cars, bikes, motor cycles – everything. My family owned a gelateria business, so as a kid I would always design ice cream cones. If you want to transform a shoe from design, into a properly wearable product however, you need technical knowledge. So I worked for four years inside a local shoe company.”

Later in the interview he talked about his collaboration with Beyonce…

“Beyoncé has very clear ideas – she knows exactly what she wants. The thing which she then also has over other celebrities, is that she has an amazing voice. She’s incredibly talented and she’s an amazing dancer – she’s complete. Few are like Beyoncé.”
“I’m working on finalizing the shoe with her stylist right now. And Beyoncé will then say what she likes and what she doesn’t like. It will be one shoe only.”
