We have seen everyone from magazines to TV shows continue the ever-necessary conversation of saving our sons from what many looked at as open season on Black and Brown boys. Now, another voice has come to the table to make sure we do not loose the conversation. An advertising agency, Burrell Communications, with a history in catering to multicultural audiences has come from behind the ads to contribute to the dialogue.
Burrell is no stranger to taking on social issues that must be furthered and their latest initiative, Black is Human, peeks into the minds of the boys we are so concerned for.
“This initiative provides a glimpse of the African American experience through stories often unheard. Black is Human takes an honest look at our community, celebrates its spirit and illuminates a truer picture,” states Burrell.
The first series, “Our Black Boys” explores the reality from their perspective. Burrell’s goal is to “help America understand that this is not a black problem, but everybody’s problem. ”
If I Grow Up:
“I don’t want to live around my community where I got to keep on hearing and hearing people keep on getting shot…” says one boy from the video.
“Among all the talk, we haven’t really heard what our black boys have to say,” notes Burrell as they give a glimpse of what’s on our sons’ minds unfiltered and unscripted.
And surprisingly, many want to do the job society seems to be getting wrong.
