Black Twitter Talks: Pumpkin Fest Riots, Cosby’s Past and the New Carol’s Daughter

October 21, 2014  |

It’s been a busy weekend and the tweets have definitely been following it all. Here’s what Black Twitter’s been chatting about lately.

#PumpkinFest

On Saturday night, students at the Keene State College in New Hampshire took to the streets, setting fires, antagonizing cops, and destroying property over…pumpkins.

Police in riot gear tried to subdue the crowd with tear gas and pepper spray, but that didn’t seem to stop many in the rabid group from rioting. While the events were troubling to watch, the media coverage of Pumpkin Fest highlighted a double standard in the ways in which Black “rioters” and white “rioters” are treated, causing many to wonder why the Keene State students were called “rowdy,” while protesters in Ferguson have been labeled “thugs.”
