It Only Gets Greater: 15 Fab Life Terrence J Flicks!

October 20, 2014  |

Today we salute rising star Terrence J! This young talent’s journey has not necessarily come without bumps but he rode them out beautifully and continues to serve up his slice of charisma on screens big, small and smaller.

As he continues to rise, Terrence J takes a moment to discuss his climb from homelessness through taking over the helm of 106& Park and leading them to an all-time viewing high to how he plans to bridge the roles of Ryan Seacrest and Will Smith into his career starting as an E! News correspondent.

On being homeless and taking over from AJ & Free (as told to Global Grind)

I was just happy to be off the streets. At the time I was pretty much homeless, I was sleeping over peoples’ houses, I stayed with my brother’s friend on a cot in his basement for around two months. I didn’t really have a place of my own for awhile so I didn’t really feed into a lot of that. I think whenever you have new people they’re always going to compare you to those that came before you.

They compare Kobe to Jordan and until you start winning those championship rings they’re going to keep on comparing you to people. So for us it was initially difficult, we had challenges and hurdles, but we’re here and we’re going into our 7th season. The ratings now are higher than there ever been in the history of the show.

On his E! News role and long term career goals (as told to Urban Daily/Ebony)

I think that Hollywood is this sort of hybrid now. You have incredible broadcasters like Oprah Winfrey who are now doing movies like The Butler. You have people that are building careers that don’t just have to fit in one lane. I want to be a trendsetter in that space. I look at a mentor of mine like Ryan Seacrest and the incredible amount of equity he’s been able to bring to the broadcasting arena, and the branding and the world that he’s been able to build around himself. I look at another mentor of mine, Will Smith – I call him the greatest actor alive right now – and I’m trying to merge the two. I have a long way to go, obviously. Those are some very big ambitions. But I’m shooting Think Like a Man 2 next year and I have two more film projects that’ll be coming out relatively soon. And I’ll be every day on E! News. Hopefully people just won’t get sick of me!
